I am new to cats.  My first cat EVER adopted was about a year ago from this shelter.  I thought she was wonderful and realized that I had missed out on a great deal of love from not having cats as well as dogs.   She was very sweet, small and delicate, light cream color with a little pink nose. I named her crystal.  She was as beautiful and as gentle as her name.  But, very sad, when she was about 8 mos old, the day after we moved, she was found dead at my back gate.  I was completely devastated and heart broken.  That was on a Thursday and by Saturday I went back to the shelter for my second cat.  "Griffin" was (then) a 5mos old male tiger.  His coloring is gorgeous and he has a little orange nose!  I am even MORE in love with this cat if that is possible!!!!  I ADORE HIM and he's very mushy and kissable and holdable.  I feel very lucky to have been gifted with these two wonderful animals.  If you haven't considered a pet other than what you are used to, you may be missing out on a tremendous amount of unconditional love. !!!
