Who We Are and What We Do

The Ontario County Humane Society is a not-for-profit membership organization, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

Major Services:

Animal Care Facility: Happy Tails Humane Society contracts with the County to enforce the NYS Agriculture and Market laws through the operation of the County's Animal Care Facility. Activities include a) enforcing dog control laws b) investigating animal cruelty complaints 3) rabies control. The Animal Care Facility, located off Route #46 in Hopewell, permits easier location of lost animals, adoption services for unwanted animals, and humane care of abandonned animals. Pet cremation is also available.

Spay/Neuter Program: We have established a fund to assist people with financial limitations, who are unable to have their pets spayed or neutered.

Educational Programs: We provide responsible pet ownership education, including spay/neuter education and incentives, proper animal care programs, responsible adoption education, and cruelty prevention. We are available to speak to groups.

Directory of Animal Services: We have a computerized listing of kennels, breeders, groomers, trainers, pet sitters, verterinarians, wildlife rehabilitators, nuisance control people, etc. Referral services are available for bereavement counseling and pet therapy for the elderly and disabled.
