Research and Copying Charges

Although you are quite welcome to browse the on-line materials to your heart's content, there are fees involved, if you were to need additional information:

Research/retrieval fee per hour: $40.00 ($20.00 minimum) (Effective January 1, 2003, based on the Board of Supervisors Resolution 432-2002)
Copying charge per page: $.25 (plus postage)
Postage - depending on weight of letter
FAX charges:
$.25 per page
$3.00 Long Distance plus $.25 per page

BECAUSE OF RESEARCHERS WHO REQUEST INFORMATION AND THEN DO NOT SEND THE FUNDS FOR THEIR RESEARCH MATERIALS, WE ARE FORCED TO CHANGE OUR POLICY: All requests for documents and research/retrieval time must be accompanied by a deposit check of $20.00 (for the first 30 minutes minimum). Please print and fill out the document request form and send with your check to Mary Jo Lanphear, Assistant Records Management Officer. Click here for document request form.

Assistant Records Management Officer (Your Research Contact)
Rosemary Switzer

The Assistant Records Management Officer will give you an estimate of costs beyond the initial $20.00. Then you may decide whether to continue.
Please, do not expect us to answer research questions over the telephone. We simply do not have sufficient staff for that type of service.
Research will be handled on a first come, first served basis. If you have a substantial research project in mind, we may be able to get you in touch with a private researcher.
The most satisfying method of research is, of course, to do it yourself - it's also cheaper!

The Records and Archives Center is open for research on weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.
